A warm, rounded and playful green tea from Japan. Kukicha is a blend of tea leaves and tea leaf stems. The lightness of the stems translates into the cup as a sweet, white sesame seed or chestnut note. Tender quality to the texture, like soft white rice. Very balanced and, for a Japanese tea, very low in astringency.

Green Tea | Moderate caffeine | Steep at 180° for 2-3 mins

Teabags

teabags
Our teabags contain the same high-quality tea as our loose-tea offerings. Their pyramid shape gives the leaves plenty of room to unfurl and infuse, placing more flavor in each cup. Enjoy the superior flavor of gourmet tea with the convenience of a disposable bag.

Lore

In most regions of the world, tea is made by steeping dried tea leaves in hot water, with variations coming from leaf type, water temperature, and steeping time. In Japan however, they decided to get a little more creative. For example, Japanese tea leaves are usually steamed instead of pan-fired to stop oxidization. Matcha is ground into powder before serving, and Hojicha leaves are roasted. Kukicha goes another direction entirely by including the stems as well as the leaves. This is where it gets its name of “stem tea,” though it can also be called Bocha, or “rod tea.”
